Safety dance

I’m drinking right now, but really this weekend I started making my stuff safer. I’m crimping connectors, adding strain relief, and strapping shit down on the printer. Later this weekend, probably tomorrow, I’ll get the Den cleaned out enough to find my carboy. This is kinda important as I have my GigaPot showing up and then it’s beer! time.

Forgot to publish.

Other notes

Northern Brewer has a deal on gear, and the GigaWort is in stock. So it’s time to make that choice. Do I buy or build? Obviously, buying would get me brewing faster. But would it be brewing like I want to. If I had a desire to drink 5 gallons of beer at a time, I should go for it. Or three gallons of the same all grain beer. Either way, it sounds dull. I want to get super microbrewing. That’s my rationale for having a dozen or so growlers. So. I think I’m just going to get converting. Soon. Ish.

I said I was brewing today

…and damn it. I am.
Last night, I totally, in between bouts of freeing the people of Caldaria, did a quick test of the atmo sensing. This “morning”, when I went to do the soldering, I couldn’t find my soldering iron. There’s always next time.
Yesterday while bsing with my dad at thanksgiving, I had a stream of consciousness brainstorm. to get a better science out of beer brewing, I could use growlers for carboys. Another day.

Better brewing

I’m probably not going to order that sensor in time for brewing, because I really want too get rolling on that. Other things I could do on the quick have been interesting me. Even if boy on the quick, they wouldn’t be invasive enough to require to be hooked up day one.
Foremost, I’m pretty sure I have a few temperature sensors now, I should probably get more. Ideally three on the jug: bottom, middle, and top. In a perfect world, it would be nine so I could also compare three sides of the jug, but I think stratification is a good start. If I start with just stratification, that still help me see if there’s value in more or less sensors. Also, a spare to measure non-jug temperature.
A BAC sensor would be dope as well. Comparing gaseous alcohol concentrations to hydrometer readings could add a lot of data. I also think it’d be great fun verifying the accuracy before and after suspension in the jug.
I think I’ll put together a shopping list and start ordering, like I said, not in time for brewday, but as happy additions.

Shipping

Well for whatever reason my WootStout seems to be a day behind on shipping which equates to the days behind on receiving (weekends and stuff), which is a bummer but good as well. This gives me more time to get the Den of Inequity prepped for brewing. I need to clear stuff out, and maybe I’ll get my temperature logging equipment up.
Oohh. Not this time, but sooner than later, maybe the next time I brew… if I order breathalyzer unit, I wonder how accurate of alcohol content out would read off of the airlock.
It’s the nice thing about always having do many projects, I never have to want for something to do when I get delayed.
The Wif got bobbins and thread, so we can get sewing soon. This puts me a little closer to self labeling, that being my overall goal.

Beer 122614

Ommegang – Scythe and Sickle

Every beer I have ever had from them is complex. Lots of flavor, multiple levels of finish. Was that the finish, or is the finish still to come. I’d recommend drinking on its own. That’s how much flavor we’re talking.

Beer 122414

Breaking beer out per day, no more one page, relevant because I drink way to much beer to keep that organized.

Odin – Odin’s Gift
Crisp chocolate with a syrupy aftertaste.
