Beer 012115

At the Rhein Haus on Capitol Hill.
Ommegang – Abbey Ale
Like always, Ommegang is complex. It tastes like beer made of chocolate fondue blackberries. Good stuff. So good,  it’s gonna be the Wif’s second beer.
Hillebrand – Original Singe Rauch
Not bad. Nothing that makes me take note, beyond it’s incredible not badness. Went well with my German style pizza.
Followed up at the Triple Door
Elysian – Backstage
Meh. It was a pale. I love their fish tank and ambience though. I also shouldn’t drink after a quart if I want accurate opinions. I give it two tetras.

A lesson in archiving

I just took pictures of a shirt I printed something like a decade ago. My buddy wants to use it for his bands album out something, which I’m definitely down with. Unfortunately, if I have the vector image of it anywhere, it’s bit anywhere obvious. Thus, why I need to figure out an archiving system, and since I have no system I took pictures at zero dark thirty and will soon turn into vector. Lesson learned.

Not that I really tried

I amost got working on LightBeer, but I can’t find my soldering iron. I played games instead. On the other hand, my phone’s power button went to seed. I mangled apart my phone and abused it with the tip of a screw driver. Problem solved. Cider is still fermenting. Slowly, very slowly. Still at about 1.010, need to get down to 1.004 and hold.

Right

Describe multiple arrays
1 – each bottle, probably by letter, this will probably be commented out as extraneous
2 – pwm pins, aligned with 1 for readability
3 – sink pins, aligned with 1
4 and 5 – hiding the status of 2 and 3 respectively

chooser:
Random grab a bottle
are 2 and 3 zero
set 4 to 1 and 5 to on
Maintain:
Write 2x abs(4)
4+1
If 4 is max, make 4 negative
Make 3 low
If 2 is zero, make 3 high

Uncertainty

In my race out the door this morning, I can’t be sure if I heard bubbling or not. I’ll assume that everything is working until price otherwise. For my next fermentation attempt, I definitely want to add remote data logging. Speaking of that…
The follow up to LightBeer is popping through my head. It’s not like I need more projects, more that more projects need me. At least that’s what I tell myself. This follow up, which is a direct follow up to LightBeer is half experiment and half function. I have a lot of empty beer bottles now, with quite die variation in size and shape. This tells me that they should each have there own (harmonic frequency? That magic frequency where they perfectly vibrate producing a note). So… I harvest some greeting card piezo elements, strap them to the bottom of bottles. Tune them all and make music.
Now if I automate the tuning, the system for doing that I believe would also work for determining the frequency associated with a given density of a liquid. Ie. I could automate a substitute measurement for specific gravity when fermenting.
It’s like a circle of life of something.

Cider making

Yesterday I had a panic when I got home. No more bubbling, when I went to see what was going on, I realized the air lock had list to much liquid. I tipped it off and everything went back to normal.
On the other hand my temperature is low, so I’m not getting the right metabolism rate for my yeast. I think low is fine, it’s to high of temperature that ruins the brew. Seeing as how the room is warm enough, this tells me I need to get it off the floor. Probably, the carpet, when compressed by six gallons of future alcohol, is acting as a great heat conductor to the concrete slab.I need to raise it anyway for future siphoning anyway.

Moral support

Maybe tonight I should work on breadboarding my light array. I’d still need to do the programming, but at least I’d have the proof of concept ready to proof. Of concept. Well that sounded stupid. But really, I need to get over my fear?  of breadboards.
I think that’s why I haven’t done much in that regards. Everything I try to breadboard becomes a tangle of wires. I’m all about the chaos, but that’s just silly.
Yeah, breadboard stuff. Once I’m happy with the breadboard, maybe I’ll get all crazy and make a PCB in something, and try etching it. I should probably use a lot of breadboard this. Maybe I should try to colour code while I’m at it. I’ll have to find my original diagrams.
This is doable. I’m doing it.

Theme

Last night I updated the theme. Not really liking it too hard. It’s not bad, but it’s not super me. It’s not like the old one was, so it’s a net zero thing. I need to work at making my own theme at some point. I mostly know how I want it to look, just need to pull the sugar on it. Figure if I start small and build out it will be okay. Or I could just leave well enough alone. For the most part this is a reminder list, so the actual reading of it is entirely moot. Hell, I don’t even read my own writing, which is probably why I have so many typos.
Freaking tired again. The Wif was doing homework until 1230am, which means bed time was about 1am. Freaking tired.
Next major steps in the den have to wait until tomorrow night due to needing the recycling to be picked up. There are still pasta I can break down and start turning into new parts though. Maybe tonight I should start building tool racks. I wonder if my drink can cut big enough holes to put wrenches into. At a minimum, I’ll be able to dirty my screw drivers. That just takes a large drill bit, a piece of wood and a way to hang it.
