Doing things versus doing things right

I’m not a huge fan of experts, not in a Republican way, but more like a dentist.  I don’t want to go the dentist every day, but you do need them sometimes.

Where I’m going with that is this weekend I put in a planter box thing.  I could have bought some red stained anemic piece of carpentry, or…

This.
I talked to coworkers about what I was going to do, went to hone depot after grabbing some rough measurements.  Wandered around hone depot, looking at stuff.  Got a cart.  Bought some cedar fencing (for its anti everything characteristics), 6 1×6’s and a 2×2.   Bought some dirt.  Cut, screwed, and filled with dirt.
Or I would have filled with dirt.
2 tall x 6″ = 1′
1′ x 1.5′ x 6′ = 9 cubic feet
I got 2 cubic feet of soil.  This is where I state I believe in iterative process improvement.  The steps should have been something like:
1. Get cart
2. Grab lumber
3. Decide how big it is
4. Calculate volume
5. Buy required dirt
6. Cut
7. Screw
8. Fill

I could have bought something made in China, or read some books, but where is the fun in that?
