I feel like my desk or workbench is coming along well. Another Xbox and I think two more computer cases to strip down. I have bags and boxes of old boards. Lots of bare metal. The damn Dell, for as much as I hate the way they build did, has some nice hinging motion I’ll probably try to incorporate in the final piece. I’m consisting whether to out a call for old CD drives to turn into drawers but I think I might have enough.
The real question I can’t decide on though is the top. I have a good amount of sherry metal nous with horrible beige or black powder coating, but I also have a cheap piece of plywood my father-in-law left lying around last time he was here. I was originally thinking the plywood but my mind has been thinking something else. I could take the sheet metal, pound it flat, sand off the coating, subject it to some accelerated oxidation, sand it again and then clear coat it for protection. Just saying ask that makes me think that’s the way to go. Leave some of the original color picking through for character. I’ll have to try sanding off some of the coating. See how hard it is.
