I figured it ed just a random outage, tried rebooting stuff but got no love. Plugged it forever into the wif’s computer this morning and she was back up. Figured I’d get that taken care of when I got home, but wanted to make sure she was set for the day.
When I got home, hooked everything up and got snake eyes. Plugged her in directly again and got love, through the router, nothing. I rebooted/defaulted the router and got no internet. So I have a bad cable out router. Finally used its clone Mac stress feature and was almost immediately in business. This sounds to me like my ISP is dicking with me.
I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Comcast for finally taking their rightful crown from those pocket dictators at EA. May Comcast’s odds forever be in their favor.
Also working on a logo
I’d like to bring everything
I do under one auspices. A brand as it were that truly shows my vision. Figuring a heraldic crest, make sure it reproducible at lute resolutions and single colour as needed. I have some of the symbolism planned, a reasonable drawing of one piece, and a motto that’s a bit tongue in cheek.
The motto might be an issue though as I hate stuff like that in English.
Computer desk
I feel like my desk or workbench is coming along well. Another Xbox and I think two more computer cases to strip down. I have bags and boxes of old boards. Lots of bare metal. The damn Dell, for as much as I hate the way they build did, has some nice hinging motion I’ll probably try to incorporate in the final piece. I’m consisting whether to out a call for old CD drives to turn into drawers but I think I might have enough.
The real question I can’t decide on though is the top. I have a good amount of sherry metal nous with horrible beige or black powder coating, but I also have a cheap piece of plywood my father-in-law left lying around last time he was here. I was originally thinking the plywood but my mind has been thinking something else. I could take the sheet metal, pound it flat, sand off the coating, subject it to some accelerated oxidation, sand it again and then clear coat it for protection. Just saying ask that makes me think that’s the way to go. Leave some of the original color picking through for character. I’ll have to try sanding off some of the coating. See how hard it is.
Screw you Dell
Violating warranties
It’s funny, even though these were old enough my boss couldn’t even sell them, they’re is dull some primitive part of me that takes satisfaction from piercing the warranty and FCC labels with my pocket knife. I also found out in my toolbox I actually do have some torx bits and a wicked little ratchet thing. Super stoked all around. Thinking I’m going to take one of my many bad hard drives and make a clock, but only after I figure out how to do it without having to buy a clock kit. No offense to people that do that stuff, but I don’t think mounting clock hardware on a drive player in a drive enclosure counts as a hard drive clock. It counts like a shiny clock.
“Cleaning”
While Shanna was studying like a good student today, I cleaned. If I sat next to her to help, I’d fall asleep as Sweetie woke me up at 6am, and if I went downstairs, I’d be completely unavailable to h help. So I cleaned. We had a while box of paperwork her mom and herself thought was important. We now have 20 some odd file folders in a file cabinet. I have a new bad of shredding. That wasn’t nearly enough time, I told you she’s a good student, so I brought up a couple computer cases and started dismantling. I’m going to take them, and inspired by this, I’m going to build something with lots of storage, make a towering part thing or maybe another desk and our work bench. I even ripped down one of the CD drives and realized the outer casing would make awesome little drawers.
skate or die
Nothing in particular.
Finally got my beaglebone black. Super stoked about that. I even totally wrote a post that I finally was able to order it, but that was eaten by my editor. The editor is full now, doesn’t need to be fed for a while now. For safety purposes, as in I don’t trust shipping companies, I had it slipped to work. It’s still there as I forgot it.
Of course it wouldn’t matter as I wouldn’t really have time to play tonight anyway as I’m writing this while waiting for a bus in Bellevue. I hate Bellevue. If nothing else, where I wait for my first bus, I’m looking out at T-Mobile’s purple behometh they call an office building. It glows with some sinister intent. It mocks me.
projects to do
I’ve been getting angsty, like I should be doing something. In that light my current projects, in no particular order, are:
- 6 dollar teddy
dissect teddy bear, make him stronger faster, powered. have add-in capaility room, probably build out some waldo framework. thinking scary baby crawl movement
- daylight alarm clock
arduino powered, used as an excuse to get a beaglebone black. have a 9-volt powersupply with a battery backup. follow the rough instructions for the traditional daylight alarm sans wall timer. leave room for expansion in enclosure.
- beagle bone black brain box
once i do get ^^^ build an enclosure. thinking using ide cables (repc?) for generic easy swap interface
- laptop
using ^^^ and prolly the screen off the sony mini-book
- vacuum
combination of teddy and beagle
- game started
you know, that thing i always ramble about
I’ve been in a punchy mood the last couple days
As in today I want to punch the fucking fat face of the stupid fuck who just sat near me. Except I’m a pacifist. Stupid fucking moral code.
Its a four seat wide bench. I’m on one extreme edge. How the fuck does his bag touch me when he sits down and sprawls out like a douche bag. For visuals, with the o being him, x is me and b is for bag.
