It’s Friday. It’s payday. I’ve got beer to brew, stuff to do, shit to make.
I was already passing on buying random craft supplies, but I’ve been working now hours. I think I’ll double down on what I was going to get. I’ll add in a Thing and maybe shoe other stuff. I kind of want to get my big data brewing going this time. I’ll liberate the Thing I was going to use for the Wif’s fitness tracker, and set that to data logging. This sounds like a plan. Maybe I should look at how Sparkfun is doing their JSON server.
Also, been thinking about the window garden. Maybe I should use PVC for the framing. I’ll have to start pricing that.
Three day workweek
Still feeling long. I did bottle beer on Monday. Smelled magical. I need to get the next batch fermenting though. Maybe I’ll build my logger first. That might be a good idea.
Grind on.
Boxes
I’m dreaming of non-euclidean boxes against the backdrop of an island of the wrong proportions.
Not really. I am, in the absence of a ruler, using a tape measure to get base dimensions of beer bottles.
- 2.5×9.25(4)
- 2.5×9.25(4)
- 2.5×8(3.5)
- 2.5×8.25(3)
Okay. So these measurements are based on the bottles that are in grabbing distance, with Diameter x Height (Neck Length). Off to the drawing board. Or in this case, the Blender Board? I should just draw this thing, but I got the desire to model it in Blender. Education never stops. Maybe I should freehand it, and the place in Blender to verify stuff?
Right
One got some thematic ideas going. I think I’ll stick to printing bottles, and maybe diecutting boxes this time. Maybe, as a stretch goal, I’ll kick everything up a notch. Next time though… shits gonna get real.
I know people know my skill set, ie anything short of talking to strangers, but I don’t think they know my skill set. I don’t think anyone ever has the ahah moment of realizing my skill set isn’t anything but everything. You could call it holistic.
Ooh… double entendre.
Open Bottle to Resumé.
Funny enough, I’m all today sounding conceited up there and here I’m pretty sure I put the accent in the wrong spot.
Designing beer boxes
Wow. I totally jump around. I’m going to bottle soon, and am going to output the bottles. I think it’d be for if I printed gift boxes for people as well. I finally have some good tin for building a die with, note I need to design the die. I’m thinking of trying to go no glue, screen printed, tapered neck. Go big out go home.
I’m also thinking of putting in LEDs with a coin cell battery, but you know. Oohhh. I totally might do that. Have it finagled so that when the box opens, lights come on, inside. That would be dope as…
Band name idea: dope as
How much are coin cells?
Have a strip of paper separating the battery from the LED. Paper is attached to the flap. As the flap moves, the circuit is completed. Dope as…
Huh
So I’m researching and researching, and honestly, that display ain’t bad. It’s tiny by smartphone standards, but the power usage is also. Resolution ain’t bad. I might look to see if I can swing it. Still tempted to slap on a single-board computer.if I did this I’d have a lot more goodies I could get away with, just on a small screen.
I could build a flip with a real keyboard? I kinda miss my phone that had that. Real keyboards are totes better than swiping…
Encryption
Got my idea now. Basically a craptastic cipher. Take the text of a book on project Gutenberg, have the character length be agreed upon. Hash the entire book at the interval. Use the hash act as the index. Rolling ciphers all the way through. Build a reading list for more iteration possibility.
Phone’s, and things like them
So I now have my RePhone, which is great seeing as how I cracked the shit out of my S3. It’s still usable, just not as pretty. Unfortunately, this means it’s go time. Figure I just renewed Virgin, so I have until the month for sure. My S3 still works, so it’s not really pushing on me. But go time.
Is estimate the breakout is:
80% text
15% pictures
5% phone
You’re probably noticing that I didn’t mention during the web. Well, I’m working away from that. That’s why. I want to do shit. Not just read shit. So now the question is what. I guess that doesn’t make sense. Right. Design goals.
Phone-ish size.
Screen I can type on.
Ability to take a shitty picture.
Ability to text the picture.
Battery life is negotiable. As long as I can get, and send, texts after 10 hours of mostly standby, it’s chill.
So I’m thinking, grab a handy SBC, and a bigger LCD, and a touchscreen.
Probably be like a Samsung Note, but four times thicker and heavier. I think I should repurpose the wood from one of my cigar boxes for the case. Probably add a little matching lid to keep the screen from breaking. A stylus so I get more bang for my buck on screen size. I’m not really worried about the screen size, but the screen power consumption.
I should probably start by doing anything with the RePhone, and going from there.
Music
Just read something something something. Well really, I didn’t read it. I think I got through the first life and has an idea of awesome.
Every character is both note and duration, maybe instrument also.
Play books from project Gutenberg.
Rails
I use the term on-the-rails a lot. Even I say it, it’s kind of like people are staying on the right path. Usually though, it’s an act.
Example: the other day I saw a couple while walking up to Capitol Hill. These two, almost definitely, had fetal alcohol syndrome. They were looking rough, maybe a little meth, maybe homeless. While neither they nor I initiated any interactions, I didn’t have the flight reflex. I associate this with the fact they each has their own pitbull. I told the Wif later I believed that there dogs helped them stay on-the-rails.
The thing is, a lot of my life I consider to be on rails, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing.
